Swedavia’s traffic statistics for April 2026: Continued growth in air travel, both international and domestic

2026-05-06, kl. 09:22

Demand for air travel continued to strengthen across Swedavia’s ten airports in April. International air traffic was affected to some extent, primarily due to the situation in the Middle East. Overall, air travel increased by five percent compared with April 2025. International travel increased by just over five percent, while domestic travel increased by four percent.

The positive development in April was driven by continued demand for both international and domestic travel. Although performance varied locally between airports, nearly all airports – with the exception of Kiruna Airport and Åre Östersund Airport – recorded growth.

International traffic continues to be influenced to a certain degree by external factors, primarily the situation in the Middle East and, to a lesser extent, strikes during the month. Overall, however, the trend remained positive.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden’s largest airport, handled just over two million passengers in April, an increase of four per cent compared with April last year. International travel increased by just over four per cent to nearly 1.7 million passengers, while domestic travel increased marginally by one per cent to just over 337,000 passengers.

Göteborg Landvetter Airport handled just under 455,000 passengers in April, representing an increase of seven per cent compared with the same month last year. International travel increased by eight per cent to just over 410,000 passengers, while domestic travel grew by four per cent to just over 44,000 passengers.

Swedavia’s remaining eight airports showed an overall positive trend in April, although with local variations.

Visby Airport, followed by Malmö Airport, recorded the strongest growth among the regional airports, increasing by 37 per cent and 14 per cent respectively compared with April last year. Domestic travel drove the increase at Visby Airport, while international travel drove growth at Malmö Airport.

Bromma Stockholm Airport recorded a total of just over 8,500 passengers in April, corresponding to four per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
